Moving to Drupal

Migrating from other CMS

Including WordPress, Wix, Duda, Contentful, Contentstack and other SaaS site services

In short: the journeys have a lot in common.

The biggest differentiator will be the complexity of your site and its various extras, customisations and processes.

From Wordpress

Since the awkward WordPress conversations of 2024, there are more reasons than ever to choose Drupal as the base for your digital presence.

Migrating from WordPress isn’t actually much different to migrating from Drupal 7. We can set up a content migration by connecting directly to your existing WordPress site database, which allows us to run practise migrations and review the content before you go live with the finalised Drupal site.

From Contentful, Wix or other SaaS website providers

Upgrading from SaaS websites is a great move for those seeking better customisability for their bespoke content, data and customer needs.

The data, product and content exports from SaaS website providers differ per platform, but generally they allow you to take your data and content with you. Duda will also export all the images that you purchased through them, for example.

Once we know what platform you're on, we can work with you to review the export and import processes for the data you want to migrate to your new site.

Other than the different export format, the design and build process is still basically the same.

General project outline

Migrating to Drupal from another platform can be broken down into a few key phases:

  • Discovery: Building an understanding of your existing site(s), data, functionality and infrastructure
  • Planning: Developing an overall project plan and an estimate
  • Design: Architecting the new Drupal site, theme, functionality and content plan
  • Build: Constructing the new D10 site
  • Migration: Composing and running a data migration between the old and new sites

Depending on your site complexity, this can take between two and twelve months.

From our very first discussions we'll be able to give a baseline estimate, which will be refined as we gain detail in our discovery phase.
