Amateur Rowing Association / GB Rowing
The Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) is the governing body for the sport of rowing (both indoor rowing and rowing on water), while GB Rowing, is responsible for training, preparing and selecting GB Rowing teams for international competitions at junior, U23 and senior level, including Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The new ARA site is based on Drupal 5, making heavy use of views and CCK to provide news, biographies, events, blogs and much much more.
Integration with core business systems
The site is heavily integrated with the ARA's existing CRM system to manage user authentication and to maintain a list of current clubs and up-coming events. The integration with Drupal taking place using simple SOAP calls placed in the appropriate hook implementations. Additionally the site makes use of a third party postcode geocoding service, again via a simple SOAP interface
Finding a local club with google maps
One of the features of the site is the club-finder service, a custom built google map based club browser. Club details are brought into the site on a batch basis via a web service interface - postcode lookups are performed live (with the results cached between pages).
Simple and Accessible design
The site has been designed from day 1 to be as clean and accessible as possible (conforming to WAI level 2 standards). Time was also spent in perfecting the look of the site in larger font sizes, leading to what we believe is one of our most accessible sites to date.
